No one, and nothing, will ever hurt you as long as I'm alive.

Pittacus Lore is the credited author of the popular young adult science fiction series Lorien Legacies, which includes the novels I Am Number Four and The Power of Six. The series centers on super-powered alien teenagers from the planet Lorien.
Pittacus Lore is actually the pseudonym for authors James Frey and Jobie Hughes, who joined forces to create the series. In 2003, Frey gained notoriety with the publication of his memoir A Million Little Pieces, which told a heart-wrenching tale of alcohol addiction, drug abuse, and redemption. Unfortunately, Frey's book wasn't a true memoir but an imaginative work of fiction. Oprah Winfrey publicly confronted Frey about the memoir's fraudulent content, and the subsequent controversy derailed Frey's career and forced him to use pen names on future projects.
Hughes graduated from the Columbia University School of the Arts in 2009 with an MFA in Creative Writing. I Am Number Four marked Hughes' first published novel, and he and Frey collaborated again under the Pittacus Lore name for the book's sequel, The Power of Six.
Frey and Hughes severed their partnership shortly after finishing the second book, citing creative differences as the reason for the split. Hughes will not contribute to any of the remaining books in the Lorien Legacies series, and it remains to be seen whether or not Frey will bring in another collaborator or resume writing as Pittacus Lore on his own.
